FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Top Nutritionist Offers Expert Opinion Regarding Sugar/Carbohydrates and Its Health Consequences

There are new insights into how sugar turns an inert LDL molecule to a deadly one. The USDA still follows flawed data regarding sugar, fat and health. Why is this?

Dallas, TX, April 10, 2012 — CBS’ 60 Minutes recently did a story discussing the implications of sugar in our diet.
What the public has been told regarding fats, cholesterol and carbohydrates over the last 40 years has been wrong. Recent discoveries in scientific research show why sugar and simple carbohydrates are the main culprits in heart disease, diabetes and obesity. Still, the U.S. Government (USDA, CDC, FDA) and most dieticians follow a guideline that is out of date and it is costing the health of the population.

Dr. Lori Shemek of DLS Healthworks, LLC and author of FIRE-UP YOUR FAT BURN! has advocated for years the health implications of sugar. In a recent article, The Number One Key To Reduce Aging and Living Longer, she explains that the over-consumption of sugar leads to faster aging and age-related diseases. Going beyond the 60 Minutes story, her research has uncovered even more information regarding the health consequences of ingesting sugar.

According to Dr. Shemek; “Sugar is responsible for glycation or the carmelization of bodily tissues. Think of crispy browned potatoes on the stove – this crispy browned effect is what occurs in our bodies with the ingestion of sugar.” Furthermore, “This leads to the creation of a new “sticky” LDL cholesterol molecule that is much more deadly than the regular LDL cholesterol.”

Helping the public to gain more understanding of why they should eliminate processed sugars from their diet is important in all areas of health. This includes inflammation and cardiovascular disease.

Listed by the Huffington Post as one of the Top 16 Health and Fitness Experts as well as a Health Expert for ABC’s Top-Rated television show, Good Morning Texas, Dr. Lori Shemek is available for interviews in the area of nutrition and health, especially when it comes to sugar and inflammation.

Dr. Maxwell Maltz, Psycho-Cybernetics & Self-Image

Back in 1960 a book came out called Psycho-Cybernetics. He describes the power of your subconscious mind and how the best way it can be used to make positive changes in one’s life. In his work as a plastic surgeon, he discovered how much of the subconscious relates to how perceives them self. In this video, entitled “The Strange World of Maxwell Maltz, you can see a deeper insight into self-image, our subconscious mind and how plastic surgery is related to it:

Memory and Exercise

Much has been told of how exercise can help with one’s memory and in particular, keeping the brain healthy.  One part of the brain, the hippocampus, is responsible for memory and in particular neurogenesis and neuroplasticity.  Neurogenesis is when new brain cells are being created and neuroplasticity is when the brain is able to have an ease of learning through neuroconnections.

The larger the hippocampus, the better off the memory.  There are some people who have naturally large ones.  Lucky people.  While others have to work at it (which is the majority of people).  While much has been talked about regarding mental exercises for the brain, it’s just as important to do physical exercise.  You see, when this happens a certain gene is being expressed epigenetically that targets the hippocampus.  It’s called the Bio-derived Neurotropic Factor (BDNF) gene.

The article link below will help to explain in deeper detail:

It’s Not Your Genes, But How They Are Expressed…

For years I’ve studied and did research regarding the new science of “Epigenetics.”  The funny things is that it’s not new to me and many others that have done some work in this area.  One of the journals I have, Science, had a whole issue dedicated to it from the year 2000.  Finally, the mainstream has jumped on the bandwagon and we’re hearing more and more about it.  Here’s a recent blog post from a layperson regarding it, giving you some more detail of how the life you live directly affects how your genes are being expressed.

Thanks,

Options and Choices

Everyday we are faced with choices. Every moment of our lives we get to choose in which direction we want to go. One choice may lead to despair while another will lead you to happiness. And many times those choices start with how we perceive each area.

When faced with too many choices, most people tend to take the path of least resistance.  They simply choose not to make a choice.  It sure is simple when we have option A or option B.  That’s also one of the reason we have two major political parties here in the United States.  It’s easier on people’s mind to choose one or the other.

In our own lives, our health is done much the same way.  We are faced with a multitude of choices and simply don’t make them.  Having said that, it becomes easier when you are more educated in a given area, like your health, then it makes it easier to understand all the options.  Here’s a video I just did that goes into options and choices.

Enjoy it and now get out and learn more so you will have the ability to fully understand what your options are in getting healthy and fit.
